Easy Taxi Kenya has partnered with various banks in Kenya to set aside up to KES.1 Billion shillings at a discounted interest rate (between 16 – 18 percent ) to improve the capacity of taxi drivers under a deal dubbed ‘1 Billion for 1,000 drivers’. Under the deal, the banks in Kenya will provide onward lending financing for taxi operators who are working with Easy Taxi aimed at empowering the drivers in their business and improving the quality and efficiency of their vehicles. Easy Taxi Kenya CEO Paul Ndichu underscores the importance of upgrading the fleet of taxis that Easy Taxi has been working with in order to ensure customer satisfaction.
Our business model is unique in the sense that it encourages our drivers to become digital entrepreneurs. By offering them this facility, we empower them to harness their entrepreneurship opportunities and increase their capacity by using modern technology in streamlining the transport sector in Kenya. We enable our drivers not only digitize & professionalize their trade, but also enhance credibility among both our corporate and individual clients.
To access the loan facility, taxi drivers across the country would be required to register with Easy Taxi, receive official endorsement and recommendation through a referral letter in order to enable them access the financing and scale up their businesses.
This is a first in Africa for the ‘hail a taxi’ APP drivers to access such facility driven by technology with Tier 1 banks like KCB Group & others providing valid offers.
Easy Taxi Africa is a part of AIG (Africa Internet Group). Globally Easy Taxi, is a leading urban mobility app, which announced it completed more than over 83 million rides in 2015 alone, bringing the total to over 130 million successful bookings since its inception back in June 2011. The growth was driven by simultaneous increase of driver and passenger communities and investment in technology, leading to higher passenger satisfaction and, as a result, strong referrals across channels. According to internal passenger survey in Kenya, more than 65% of Easy Taxi’s new users in December came from word-of-mouth and recommendations from friends and family. 68% are women and over 50% earn less than 100,000Ksh monthly.
Together with the growth of 4X in 2015, Easy Taxi remains bullish on growth in 2016. Easy Taxi Kenya’s CEO Paul Ndichu, still sees a huge opportunity for growth: “The Kenya taxi market is still virtually untapped as taxi app rides represent less than 5% of total rides in the region”.
Easy Taxi has recently doubled on its investment in technology, launching numerous features requested by local passengers. Those encompass driver messaging, dynamic taxi fare estimate, and multiple improvements to its payment technologies, including safe PIN payments, MPESA payments, Cash, offline payments, and integrations of additional payment options. Easy Taxi is payment-agnostic, accepting cash, mobile money, debit card, credit card, in-app, and corporate bookings – a significant competitive advantage against many other taxi apps.
To date, Easy Taxi Kenya is Nairobi’s largest taxi services on a technology platform and has now launched in Nakuru and Mombasa with over 2,000 taxis.
